Manchester United are set to renew their interest in Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic and are desperately waiting for the winter transfer window to open, according to the Sport.
It is understood United would face tough competition over the player, though, with Inter Milan also making early contact with the Nou Camp club as they’ve also enquired about Rakitic’s availability.
The Croatian international has been previously linked with a move to United this past summer as it appeared likely that his role at the Camp Nou was in threat due to younger talents.
Sure enough, the 31-year-old isn’t attaining requisite game time and is now looking like a probable departure come January.
With the current crisis at the United camp I strongly doubt a player like Rakitic is what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs considering his age and also his fitness problem.
While his experience and creative intent would be a welcome addition, United are bound to be better off if they target a clinical striker, a young forward and defensive reinforcements across their backline.
